Leaving a gift in your Will

By including a gift to MS Research Australia (MSRA) in your Will you can help us accelerate research to achieve our ultimate goal of freedom from MS.

Making your Will is perhaps one of the most important things you do in your lifetime. It gives you the opportunity to safeguard the future of those you care about - your family, friends and the organisations with whom you are involved.

What is a bequest?
A bequest is simply a gift noted in your Will.  It can be a gift of cash, property, shares or other investments. You nominate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue remaining after your other wishes are met.

What areas of MS research can I give to?
MSRA is always looking to fund the research that has the most promise at any one time. So, most people who make a bequest are happy to allow MSRA to decide the best way to use their gift. Medical research is moving rapidly and answers are being found every day. It may be difficult to implement your wishes in years to come if your instructions are too specific.

If you would like to direct your gift to a specific MS research area please contact us to discuss the most appropriate areas requiring funding.

How do I make a bequest?
Your bequest must be properly detailed in your Will. A Will is a legal document that allows you to say how you want your assets distributed after your death, including gifts to your favourite charities.  By making a Will you will also be helping your family and the people you care for.Your wishes will be clear and nothing will be left to chance. If you are supporting MSRA already and would like this support to continue beyond your own lifetime, your Will is the practical way to do this.

Do I need legal advice?
If you haven’t written your Will yet or if you would like to update your Will it is important to seek proper professional advice from a Wills & Probate solicitor.

If you do not already have a legal advisor, you can contact MSRA for details or your local Law Society, who can provide a list of solicitors in your area.

Your pledge to MSRA
We would love to hear from you if you decide to leave a gift in your Will to MSRA. We can then say thank you and tell you more about the research you may potentially support.

Bequest wording
The following wording may be helpful as you consider how best to include a gift to MS Research Australia. Your solicitor or trustee company can help you with this.

I give and bequeath to MS Research Australia of 293 Mowbray Road, Chatswood, NSW 2067, for its general purpose, (please include your bequest option here), and I declare that the receipt of its treasurer or other authorised officer shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.
