Oral drug significantly reduces MS relapse rates

Sanofi-Aventis has announced that teriflunomide, an oral drug taken once daily, significantly reduced the annual relapse rate in People with MS.

The Phase 3 trial called TEMSO also showed that teriflunomide were well tolerated regardless of whether they were taking the 7mg or 14mg doses.

Teriflunomide is a new oral treatment for relapsing-remitting MS that blocks the production of specific immune cells. In addition to the TEMSO trial, two other Phase III trials are underway called TOWER (for People with relapsing -remitting MS) and TOPIC (for People with Clinically Isolated Syndrome).

To find out how you can participate in TOWER or TOPIC more information is available on the MSRA Clinical Trials Network website:

- TOWER: A study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of teriflunomide in patients with relapsing MS
- TOPIC: A study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two teriflunomide in patients with a first clinical episode suggestive of multiple sclerosis
