MSRA awards Postdoctoral Fellowships and Postgraduate Scholarships to promote and support the research training and careers of young researchers.

Applicants are encouraged to apply to both MSRA and NHMRC significantly increasing your chances of funding either by MSRA, NHMRC, or the Trish MS Research Foundation or through a co-funding agreement.

Trish MS Research Foundation Scholarships and Fellowships favour applicants who have been reviewed by both the NHMRC and MSRA. Therefore it is in your best interests to apply for funding to both and increase your possibilities for funding.

Proposals MUST show a direct link to advancing our knowledge of MS.

1. Macquarie Group Foundation Australia/UK MS Society Research FellowshipMacquarie Bank Foundation Logo

Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia (MSRA) and the Macquarie Group Foundation, in conjunction with the UK MS Society, are offering the opportunity for one Australian or UK Researcher to undertake Postdoctoral Training in the UK or Australia respectively.

This Fellowship is intended to enhance Australian-UK collaboration in MS research by providing flexible opportunities for an Australian or UK Researcher to work in leading laboratories on an importanUK MS Society Logot project. Macquarie Group Foundation continues to support the Australian effort to find the cause, and the cure for MS.

The Award will commence in 2009 and will provide funding of up to AU$108,000 p.a. (or £50,000 p.a.) for three years full-time. 

The Macquarie Group Foundation Australian – UK MS Research Fellowship will be awarded based on the following criteria:MS Australia Logo

  • the applicant has an outstanding academic and research record

  • has a proven ability for original research in the field of MS as recognised by a portfolio of high quality publications and an exceptional reputation and international standing

  • the proposed project must show a clear, innovative direction that will progress knowledge in the field of MS

2. Trish Foundation/Betty Cuthbert Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Trish Foundation is calling for applications for a Trish Foundation/Betty Cuthbert Postdoctoral Fellowship.  The Foundation is focussed on achieving its goal, all our research funds being put towards an ultimate cure, in other words myelin protection, repair or restoration. Applications are to be received by 6 June 2008 by returning the application form available on their website to the Trish Foundation and NHMRC.

3. NHMRC Betty Cuthbert Fellowships

NHMRC Betty Cuthbert Scholarships are in honour of the four-time Olympic gold medal winner – the highest number ever won by any Australian track and field athlete. Ms Cuthbert has suffered the debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis for nearly 25 years. These prestigious NHMRC Fellowships are awarded annually for four years and are jointly funded with MSRA. 

Please note that to be eligible for a NHMRC Betty Cuthbert Fellowship, applicants must apply to both MSRA and NHMRC.

6. National Institute of Clinical Studies-MSRA Betty Cuthbert Fellowship

MSRA are co-sponsoring with the NHMRC a National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) Fellowship for a future leader in the uptake of evidence into practice. This two-year half-time Fellowship provides an opportunity for a health professional to undertake a practical project and to develop a leadership role in the uptake of evidence in MS. The successful candidate will have access to training, mentoring and support to become a leader in evidence uptake.
