Walkers take strides to cure MS

It will be a mighty welcome this Wednesday  22nd September in Sydney as two women take the final steps to complete their walk from Mudgee to Sydney.

Katrina Hemingway and Liz Melchoir have undertaken this remarkable task, all 270 kilometres, as a demonstration of the power of love and determination. They were joined for the entire journey by Debbie Bird, a woman with multiple sclerosis, and others joined them for various sectors of the walk.

Their goal has been to raise funds for research into multiple sclerosis. The two walkers chose this cause as Katrina’s husband, Mike, has MS. He too travelled the distance with them by car and in spirit; playing a role in organising the entire journey including arranging sponsorships, assistance from the RTA and Councils and calling media along the way.

The trip, M2S, was a hit with communities along the way. ‘The task was enormous and the enthusiasm and planning was

brilliant and their target of $100,000 for research is close at hand,’ said Jeremy Wright of MS Research Australia (MSRA). MS research receives all the donations thanks to a fantastic group, Foundation 5 million, which is principally people with MS and their friends and families.

It has taken months of preparation and help from many – from volunteers to Volkswagen; from Councils and communities along the way. All have cheered on the inspirational M2S team as they passed through Lithgow, Mt Victoria, Katoomba, Penrith and then to Chatswood.

You too can ‘walk’ with them by visiting www.m2s.org.au and click on the donate here links.
